Hello!
Happy Wednesday! Happy Pride! Happy Open Book day! Happy Open Book Podcast day! WOOO!
Episode 17 features
- serving words just as good as our favorite dessert. You may have heard her perform live at Open Book or seen her highlighted on our IG recently being that she is a featured performer at our fun collab event this coming Friday! (continue reading for more details :) !If you have had the pleasure to hear her read or engage in conversation with her you know that Bexie’s words have a certain intoxicating musical affect-one of the many reasons this podcast is a treat for both your ears, your mind, and your soul. “I am fire burning weaving shock into love…”
Brought to NYC by way of Canada she sure has a lot to say and show. A little bit about Bexie-
Bexie Bay, a Poet and Writer is based in New York, and has always written poetry. An author of poetic books and works, Bexie has honed her writing and speaking voice over the years.
Bexie currently writes and produces Gothic Poetry.
She focuses on publishing her poetry digitally and artistically through multimedia art. She utilizes her voice in the vocal and sound design, arranges the music and compositions and films and edits the visual work in what can be described as short films or music videos for her poetry.
Bexie also showcases her poetry in live performance.
See below for a sample of her multimedia magic- so, so, good.
Personally some of my favorite words of hers are in this piece (and captured below)- I see myself, my yellow dots, in the greys and blues and glitters she paints for us so perfectly.
grey scale honeymoon I sleep deep in colour I stay up late dreaming in grey - I wash my face dripping in glitter I spend my days feeding my paints - and when they act out in hunger, I arrange for a palette packed plate…
Shakespeare and so much more makes a cameo in our conversation but my biggest inspiration from our time recording together is how Bexie reframes how we think and experience the sounds around us, especially in such a city like NYC. It’s never quiet here! You will hear and see in her videos (youtube link below) how she is able to isolate a note from our everyday and use it to create her own score. She is an investigator, a director, a romanticist of this beautiful life. That score soon becomes the beginning of her next poem-defining an emotion and finding the beauty in the ‘ugly’. Ahh you will have to just listen to the episode for more on this… including how her piece ‘ice in my legs, i lose touch’ came to be. Hint-she wrote while at Fiction Bar, during Open Book! I’m obsessed.
For more of the above we hope you join us for a special collab event this coming Friday! As mentioned earlier- Bexiexz is 1/3 of the Open Book features. Info and flyer below.

Once upon a time, three queer collectives gathered to tell stories, cast spells, and throw a damn good party. Menage à Trois returns for its second year with Fairy Tales—an enchanted evening of dance, music, comedy, and queer storytelling. Featuring nine dazzling performers from across our communities, it’s a night where frogs turn into queens, villains get redemption arcs, and happy endings come in many forms.
Threesome still means three groups, not an orgy. But you never know what kind of magic the night will bring.
